Glad I could help. I was lucky to discover the reason when it happened to
me. It's all most all ways some little thing. I sure miss my 33k fax-modem.
It's in the shop...I forgot to unplug the phone line during a lighting
storm...
lost it and the com port chips on a brand new pentium MB. If it can't be
repaired, I will buy the supersonic. Am playing with voice control in OS2-
warp-4. Can I turn the speaker from the Super-sonic into the mic of my
voice control and run things remotly------ (GBG)?

I am afraid I may some day forget to unplug things befores a lightning
storm too. So far I have been lucky.

That is nice. I have wondered why the software that is provided with to
Sonic does not have speaker phone capacity. Of course I can hardly hear
it now even with L2 set. Does OS2 provide enough output volume from the
modem speaker?
I have a new problem with Netscape. If I get a 31200 bps connect at times
Netscape 2.01 will either crash to DOS or get a GPF. 28800 or 26400 works
OK. I usually get a corrupted "fat.db" file which SCANDISK can
reconstruct. It will also sometime crash when when using Netterm for
"telnet" and leave lost clusters from the capture file. Got any idea why
this is happening?

I would go with the SupraFAXModem 33.6. Unless you want to have a fancy
little display to look at and a black ugly case, then I don't think you
want the Sonic . The BBS I am
writing this message on runs a USR 33.6 on Node1 and a SupraFAXModem
33.6 on Node 3 . The SysOp tells me they
both work fine. I trust Supra as they have always made attractive modems
that work great and just never seem to die. I have a 1992 vintage Supra
v.32bis 14.4 external and it works great!
