subject: Ladies gun?

Cloyce was returning fire at Paul
 about Ladies gun?
PN> Well, that ain't no lady, that's my wife...
CO> Now what will you give me not to tell her you said that?

Too late. A pat on the butt, a car-wash...amazin' what a guy can get
 away with.
PN> was that she done great. The bad news is that she done better than me
 .
CO> Sometimes those ladies can embarass us.

I'm convinced that women generally have better hand-eye coordination
then men. Assuages the ego when they out-do us at "guy stuff," anyway .
PN> So my conclusion is that we go shopping for a wheelgun. At the same
CO> At last! You've seen the light and come around to the true religion!
Uh, well, not quite...still a heretic here, boss .
I grew up as a "switch hitter." There were wheelguns and self-loaders
in the "arsenal." I became a true believer in the .45 round after
seeing the results on the human torso. So, for my own personal
purposes I prefer the .45, and the most effective way to use it is in
 an auto.
For my wife's purposes, she has trouble cycling the slide -- her hands
are small, some arthritis is starting to manifest itself and she
doesn't have a great deal of strength. She had difficulty with both
the autos last week, so the conclusion for her is probably a small
frame revolver. Plus, at her level of competence in a high stress
situation there are fewer steps to take and fewer potential screw-ups
 to make with the revolver.
CO> :-) It's no secret that I've always favored revolvers and one of the
CO> reasons is just as you stated.
PN> A new compact _and_ a new Chief's Special, or whatever, ain't in the
PN> cards. Anybody with any thoughts on bargain compact firepower?
CO> Don't overlook some of the older "obsolete" revolvers found at gun
CO> shows. Dragon Lady's current favorite is an ancient break open S&W
 CO> .38 (.38 S&W as opposed to .38 Special). She used to be fond of a .38
CO> Short Colt revolver which had its barrel amputated to about 3 inches.
CO> Both of them fit nicely in her purse and both "fit her hand". Both
CO> had adequate power yet were very easy for her to control.
Sounds similar to the conversation this afternoon. My 1911 went to the
doc for some trigger tweaking. He has a couple of saturday nite
specials...I forget the brand, in .380. Lifetime warrantee. One of
'em will do for me for the immediate future for a backup/discrete carry
defensive gun. He's gonna be on the lookout for a used small frame in
some variant of a .38 that will work with my budget.
OTOH, I've got a house scheduled to close in mid-june, if it does this
time around I may say the heck with it and give in to some temptation.
