I have also enjoyed reading and enjoying all the Louis Lamor Westerns,
Sackets and all. Another favorite Western author is Will Henry, who
writes from the Native American point of view. Tony Hillerman writes a
great mystery set in the modernday West, from a Dineh (Navajo)
perspective. I have been in the area that these tend to be set in, and
it is a harst barren, yet beautifully abstract land. Once you go there,
it becomes part of your psyche. Some of Tony's bad guys are a bit much,
but his local characters, and the change in cultural perspective make it
worth while to read all of them. *Loved* "Coyote Waits". And, he is
right, Coyote *does* wait for all of us, if we are unwary enough to not
keep a look out for where we are going...
