subject: USR Courier V34 problems

PE> So it trains up after every call by design? Ok, then why doesn't
PE> ATI6 show the retrain?

RB> The word "Retrain" is loosely used by USR owners for
Speedshift as well.

I speedshift relevant for V32bis?

PE>> 5. AT&F1 sets S56 equal to 16 instead of the default of 0 listed
PE>> in the manual.

DH>> Confirm. There's a fair amount more of that as well.

PE> Want to document some of them? BTW, David Drummond says the
PE> default on his is "definitely 0".

RB> He is using the July5/July5 SDL.
RB> The July18/July5 SDL is the one that you are using does this.

You are correct. I have dropped back to July5/July5 and the
problem has gone away. Introduced a new one though. Now
my connects with David Begley's Netcomm are no longer at 26400
(instead of 28800) all the time - they're less all the time!
:-(

PE>> 7. USR to USR connect failed due to a retrain failure. Also,
PE>> USR to USR is showing 21600/2400 as the connect rate.

PE> The results of ATI6 (defying
PE> the laws of physics) make it look like the USR is screwed.

RB> Has happen to me once in 15 months connecting to Arthur Marsh and his
RB> Molorola codex 3265 - Disconnect reason GSTN Cleardown
RB> Might depend on which modem you connect too.

I was connected to another USR V34+. Dave Hatch's in fact.
BFN. Paul.
