| subject: | USR Courier V34 problems |
PE> Here are the results of a call made this morning to Dave
PE> Hatch's courier. Note that I had my com port set to 38400,
PE> despite the fact that the last save was at 57600. Note that
PE> the "BUSY", "CONNECT" etc all came back fine at 38400.
PE> BFN. Paul.
This MAY BE a BUG in the USR, and may irritating through your eyes as a
programmer but I don't think it is related to your getting good connection
speeds to other modems, and after all that is all we are after.

I would say that you are not doing Too bad for an inner city connect to
another USR if this is still with the 18 July SDL.
Now me to Dave Hatch (from Far North QLD)
(not bad for a first time, once only connect, I suppose)

CONNECT 33600/ARQ/V34/LAPM/V42BIS
I notice you retrained above as well. I did not.
After you flash with the 5/7/95 SDL.
and set S27=48, then It is out of our control.
(It has to be your lines (either your side of the exchange or tuther side)
lack of bandwith, noise, or fancy tricks like multplexing, you name it.)
In almost every area in your stats you are just one step behind me and this
is to be expected in the city traffic with the jumble of ancient wiring
between exchanges and the interference that goes with it..
(As stated before)
I get similar results (31200) trying to connect to Dave Drummond (about 20km
away) when dialing from home. And only get 26400 to my local favourite
microcom, Maestro and Netcomm.
No change in anything but the distance (1800km) and temporarily using Optus,
and I am getting solid 33600 to David D and 28800 to all these others.
I would say that Poe has more problems than you at the moment as I can only
connect to him at 26400/28800 from here USR to USR since he moved and the
lines are laying in the gutter for schoolboys to demolish.
And he IS using the 0705/0705 SDL
