I was very disappointed when I obtained two newer scanners (I owned a
Radio Shack 2004 for several years, and have never had the following
issue), and have been plagued with cellular interference. What this
boils down to, is that both the 890XLT and Pro-46, both which have
fantastic sensitivity, are forever picking up cellular on regular 800
Mhz frequencies. Our local police and sheriff's office use 800
conventional (non-trunked) systems, and of course there are no cellular
systems licensed on those channels. However, for no reason other than
design, both the '890XLT and the '46 will pick up the cellular stuff and
just about blot out the police traffic. As fast as it shows up, it goes
away. Not constant, but consistent enough to be aggravating. I was told
by certain experts that I'm "stuck" with this problem; it's partially
design of these (and other) scanners; Learn to live with it or just
ignore it, but that's very hard to do. I have never had any cellular
overload problems with my '2004, whether on external antenna or just the
telescopic rod. I would like to note that both the '890 and the '46 are
on their own internal antennas, and I have NOT put them on
outside/and/or external antennas because of the obvious.
Any suggestions other than obtaining expensive cavities which only notch
partials in the 800/900 spectrum?
