Why not?  The worst thing that could happen is that neither side would try
to win the prize, and we could keep it for ourselves.  It would be enough
to buy health insurance for about 2,000,000 poor American families.

Which is exactly the point.  When the Pope DID take sides, did that ever bring peace?
