Hello Richard:
Most programs such as the UNIX vacation program stick a header
line in their I'm on vacation message with precedence bulk or
precedence junk.
Good mailing list software looks for this header line and if
present either ignores it or routes it to the listowner for
review.
Yes it is a good idea to either signoff from lists you are on
when away fro a while or suspend mail from the list with the set
nomail option on a revised listserver.
As listowner of blind-l I found a ton of strange things when I
took over runnning the list.
Like software that was sending non-delivery messages to the list,
software telling me in separate messages so and so had received
read and deleted the mail and systems with 10 minute delivery
timeout thresholds.
Also addresses that had been abandoned for years that wee still
on the list and receiving mail and generating very odd error
messaes.
... The last thing I saw was this Big Blue Wave!
