It's your choice.  The upgrade to the ITU standard will be free, so you have 
nothing to lose if you decide to buy now.

Both are proprietary, and therefore the "differences" aren't feely available. 
 X2 offers more speeds than K56Flex, though - though that probably doesn't 
matter very much.  What _does_ matter, though, is that _some_ of the 
"K56Flex" products _aren't_ interoperable - the various manufacturers agreed 
on a standard but not all have released compliant products.  Also, some of 
the K56 hardware has a programmable EPROM, but a non-programmable datapump, 
which _may_ require a trip to the factory to replace to update to the ITU 
standard.
