If you are just starting DTV you have an advantage because now
you'll start with non-linear editing as opposed to owning all the
equipment for previous editing meathods. If your shooting for
commercial quality you need Beta-Cam SP or better. You can try with
Hi-8 but that would be "Semi-Pro" level, great for weddings and
instructional videos but look like heck on Commercial TV. Pick your
market first. Base that on who you want to compete against. The big
time boys get the big bucks for a reason.
Assuming less than $20 K in working capital research the market for
instructional and corporate policy productions. A non-linear editor
(MAC or Amiga) plus one camera Hi-8 and one production deck Hi-8 and
VHS record deck, ALL USED will fit that plan.
