I have an Orange Wing who's a real sweetie. I don't know anything about her
history, but she is very reserved and kind of views the world as something
that won't harrass her if she keeps a low profile. I've had her for about
two years. She's probably about ten. If you enter the room and she's
active, she immediately goes to the far side of her perch and sits very
still, but her heart is pounding very fast. The first year she was very
nervous and quiet. Now she's starting to TOLERATE attention. the one
exception is that she would let me rub her head 20 hours/day if I cooperated!
I've seen her chewing on wood toys once in awhile and I can even get her to
play tug-of-war once in awhile for a few seconds. She is making more noise
these days, but doesn't seem to be having *!*FUN*!* as a parrot should.
I'd like to solicit anybody's comments about Orange Wings as a species and
her as an individual bird. I think she's just not as rowdy as many others,
but I don't feel I'm making progress with her like I should be. She doesn't
seem to be enjoying life much. My Yellow Crowned is a wild and zippy man so,
by comparison, she's much more shy and dignified. Also, she preens her front
whenever she's disconcerted, so those feathers are way overpreened. She gets
showers twice a week.
Comments please! Thanx.
