The military commander's decision was itself characterized as shameful by
the pilot's attorney. Many still believe, as I still suspect, that the
decision was a cover-up for the military's own bungling. At that, had those
killed not been Canadian, there probably would have been nothing more than
an administrative action taken against him; a reprimand put into his
personnel file.  The trial was political, little more.
