subject: Cable drop

Over the last couple months there have been several days when I have had
the cable loose connection, a lot. Sometimes it will reconnect on it's
own. Other times I get tired of waiting and boot the modem. It then
usually reconnects.

How can I tell what is happening. Who do I complain to; me or Charter?

Since originally posting that I did call Charter. I think I got someone
who actually knows something. The connection failed while he was
watching the line. He thinks my modem is intermittent.

He is willing to send a tech. This all started a couple months ago.
Before that I lost the connection maybe twice a year. Now it might go
several days without a problem, so I passed on the tech.

It is not easy to swap a modem; it must be registered with the ISP.

There is a modem wizard at: http://192.168.100.1/. Today I have an
extensive modem log, most (all?) of which I do not understand.

I had a two way splitter with one leg to the modem and a four way to the
TVs. I just replaced the four way to the TVs with a four out
distribution amp hoping it might cut the insertion loss. Downstream
power in both cases is about is -4 dBmV. Good is ± 12 dBmV

Any suggestions before I get another modem.

TY
Ray
