I have a problem with that. Sometimes juries make awards based on
punishment instead of compensation values.

IOW, some huge company might figure it's cost effective to not fix a flaw
and pay for a few limited damage awards even though they know people are
going to die because of the flaw and even though the flaw is easily
fixable.

By not having limits, juries are capable of making the cost unacceptable in
a case where a company makes what the jury considers unacceptably cold
capitalistic cost driven decision.

I think that's an important power to leave in the hands of a jury.
