You can measure this with a "watt meter" which you can buy or rent.
If you want to do it the "poor mans" way. Turn off all your appliances
and lights so that all your equipment consumption is only of this
'phamtom' type. The take a reading from your electric meter at hourly
intervals. You will need to take note of the primary stator (the big
flat horizontal wheel that spins past graduated numbers) The call the
electric company and ask them how many WH that represents.

A 10KW generator is the maximum rating of the generator itself. That
is, in one hour it could produce 10KWH of electricity. You get 10KWH
for every hour the wind blows, that's 720KWH a month. Of case that is
assuming a lot, a LOT of wind that it.
Contact the maker of the generator and find out how much wind is
needed to produce a givin amount of power, They usually have a line
graph that will show a reasonable power output at a given wind
velocity. Then measure the wind velocity over time at verious
locations on your property. Over time, you will find both the best
location, and the amount of wind.
This requires some time to do it right. For a wind generators to be
worth while, you need wind year around, but just in the spring and
fall. And, you need a lot of wind: 20MPH or better.

Hope that helps...
