subject: Bootable CD?

Last weekend I had an unexplained crash whille booted to my Warp4
system. When I rebooted, the blob never even appeared. The cursor just
set there blinking. I booted from eCS 1.0 floppies and ran CHKDSK. It
seems that at least two directories were fouled up, but CHKDSK fixed
things up.

Anyway, this started me thinking about a backup, which I hadn't done for
too long. I took care of that. That, of course, started me thinking
about how I would restore the backup should the drive die. I decided to
make a bootable CD, since media is now dirt cheap.

I have the latest revision of Bootable, and a couple of earlier released
under different names but from the same author. To date I have burned
a CD-RW test CD about 20 times, and 4 plain CD-R disks, and not a one of
them will actually boot my machine.
I've tweaked the setup files and even hard-coded various filenames to
ensure they got put on the CD. I've checked and rearranged the
CONFIG.SYS file till it looked right to me. I've done everything I can
think of, and still haven't managed a bootable CD. I considered it may
be a hardware problem, but I have booted the eCS CDs and a Win98 SE CD,
so I assume the hardware is capable. Depending on how I start the boot
process (do nothing vs selecting CD from the BIOS boot device menu), the
boot either hangs loading DANIBOOT.FLT or it progresses to the point
where the "can't operate your hard disk" message appears.

Soooooooo, my question is, has anyone actually created a bootable CD
using Bootable? What about some other means of creating one? I'd sure
appreciate any advice anyone can offer!

Regards,

Steve
