I've got a small collection of King's books and I just checked various
notes in them concerning the author. It appears his earliest works are
those now known as the Bachman books, which include Running Man and
Thinner, now movies. Those books were written in the late 60's to early
70's. The first one published under King's name, Carrie, came out in 74.
So, yeah, it would certainly appear far more likely that King based The
Crimson King on the band than vice versa.
