<< I agree with every word in this post except one.  You write 
"how perfect RNA is for the start of life".  I would change
that to "the start of genetics".  For the start of life, I
would like to have a mechanism for producing chiral sugars
and high energy phosphate bonds within the emergent biology, 
rather than outside of it.  Do that, and I will concede you 
the purines and pyrimidines, and replicase ribozymes.
