The USA is planning a permanent military presence in Iraq. I doubt that. But they most certainly are planning for a long term occupation by Halliburton et al. The enforced privatization of the Iraqi economy proves that. The lengthening of the contracts to cover a five year period was to lock the Western conglomerates into a semi-permanent presence. That was one of the last things Bremer did before fleeing Iraq. His exit reminiscent of the US exit from Vietnam, lacking only the helicopter from the roof thing. Fact is, Bush can't wait to get his troops out of Iraq and would pull them out tomorrow if he could do that without guaranteeing that even people like Geo wouldn't see it as an admission of defeat. If Bush is re-elected, expect the interim government to "request" the removal of troops and gone they will be. Bush can't possibly keep troops in harm's way during the quasi civil war that will undoubtedly occur. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
