Emerson Electric in quality control. Interesting pieces in local papers about
social unpleasantness across the river from you every few days. Piece on
local TV about travelers crossing the border who need swimming lessons. I was
out to BJC this afternoon and saw a very sleek single engine that I wasn't
familiar with and found out it is a German Grob G115C. Look somewhat like the
old Meyers 200. Heavy wx with tops of 50K and hail around here again. Most
every afternoon. Continental's new flat 4 diesel for aircraft will be 2
cycle, supercharged of about 286 CID and deliver 200 HP. Single level power
control> Just as a guess, I would see a turbocharger feeding a Rootes-type
blower and a narrow operating RPM band. It will be designed for longer TBO
and cost half the price of current 200 HP gas engines (????) I hope they
include glow plugs, big water drains and monster air filters, dual vacumn
pumps and maybe a compressionrelease for easier starting. I would guess a
fuel efficiency rating of about .45 of fuel per hP/hour. The last thing I
would want to see included is big fat soft rubber engine mounts, otherwise it
will shake the rivets loose. JD
