well, to use synchronet as a front end, you would set it up as a doorgame, 
'already connected' then make a logon with just the command "exec_xtrn 
telegard" , or whatever you set as the code.

by using synchornet as a front end, you can benefit from ip filtering, you 
can use non-fossil doors and also benefit by the yield intrevels settings.
(tame dos programs)

but, i'm sure you can do some of this with netserial or gameserv.
i guess it just boils down to a preference issue.
