subject: Short Mysteries

Well, I don't know of anyone who routinely does short ones. However,
one of the Brother Cadfael books out last year had 4 mysteries, 2 good
ones, and 2 rather so-so. If you like Westerns, Louis Lamor had a good
bunch in his Chick Bowdrie books. They concern a Texas Ranger back in
the days of the old West. Actually, although Louis Lamor is known for
his novels, I think he did better with short stories.
Tony Hillerman has a nice tape out. It is a tongue in cheek look at
2 actual events. One is 'The Great Taos Bank Robbery'. The other is
the 'Flood of???" I have forgotten the year, but it is a flood that
would not be considered a flood outside of Taos.. Oh. About the bank
robbery. It is not an Old West bank robbery, merely a bungled
contemporary one. Bungled by the robbers, the cops, the newspaper....
