Why would it be unconstitutional?  The date and duration of the election is
fixed by law not by the constitution.  A simple piece of legislation
changing the date from the first Tuesday after the first Monday to
something else and changing the duration to something else aren't
impossible.

Further, it's also quite clear that the inability to hold an election for
the Electoral College has been allowed for.

An appalingly antiquated system, I think.  But it has given you Bush and
Clinton so both sides must be (however easily) satisfied with the current
process.
