It was and remains a thoroughly dumb idea, especially in an area
historically subject to massive earthquake activity. That waste should be
stored locally in earthquake-proof facilities at the expense of the local
power companies. They should never have been allowed to suppose that they
could divest themselves of a
problem they created by simply dumping it elsewhere at public expense.

There is nothing new about this criticism, of course. More sensible people
were voicing it when Yucca was first proposed. Nothing has changed. It
remains a dumb
idea and Yucca should be shut down. What should then be done with the hole
that has already been dug? Use it to dump all the Republicans who are going
to be thrown out of office in November.
