RF> Jeremy worked on the computer the rest of the day. The other two kids
RF> worked on their story again. So I decided to count that as school
RF> since they were all learning and doing stuff.
Now, this is the kind of thing that I usually count as schoolwork! :)
It doesn't have to be an assignment I give him to count. Work he thinks
up himself is much, much better because it interests him and he puts his
natural enthusiasm into it.
Today he found an old tea kettle in one of my bottom cupboards. This
inspired him to hold a contest for the containers in my home. Right
now the two tea kettles, the coffee pot, the blender, and a few other
pitchers and such are on the two tables in my living room lined up for
the contest. He cut out tags and wrote numbers on each, using the
flashcards I'd made for examples of number shapes. He remembered from
the car show that we attended last April that the contest entries would
need numbers. I counted this all as an hour long math project. Even
though today is Sunday, it will be written down and will sure take the
burden off me later in the week, since he does have to have 3 + 1/2 hours
of math each week.
To me, this is what homeschooling is... encouraging creativity and teaching
(or allowing) the children to learn to love learning. :)
RF> I know the spelling in those stories are probably wrong and
RF> that the sentence structures are not right, but you know, I really
RF> don't care. The fact that they did this on their own and want to put
RF> it in the computer so they can read it for school, has me thrilled to
RF> death.
Yes, exactly... they are learning to love learning. :) This sounds very
positive and good. Congratulations!!!
