Utterly impossible - which shows how much you know >about our system. You are wrong, as usual when discussing your government. Given the structure of your government, Parliament has absolute power and can do whatever it likes. There is nothing to stop it; no independent judiciary, no separation of executive and legislative powers, no constitution, nothing but public opinion. Of course, you will probably tell me the Lords or even the Queen could prevent it. They could not, of course, as both are utterly subservient to the Commons. It is a rotten system and the basic structure of the US government is such as it is precisely to steer clear of your deeply faulted system. True, it is easy for an American to say that, but increasing numbers of Brits are saying it as well. Your system is nothing but a dreary hangover from the days of monarchy. The only real change has been from absolute control by the monarch to absolute control by the Commons. All that for good historical reasons, of course, but that doesn't excuse what it is. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
