DL>MK>am trying to convert the audio output tones from a terminal node
DL>MK>controller to a rs-232/rs432/mil-188 format. how can i do this.
DL>MK>when converting the rs-232 back to the audio tones for input into
DL>MK>the terminal node controller would i be limited to a single set
DL>MK>mark freq. and a single set space freq.? in other words no wide/narrow
DL>MK>or more than one mark or space freq.?
DL>MK>any help/info. on how to connect two terminal node controllers
ogether
DL>MK>via rs-232/rs-432/mil-188 protocol would be great.
DL>Whew. Once upon a time I had a Burr Brown controller (for machine
DL>control purposes) that ran with the RS432 and someone gave me an offer I
DL>couldn't refuse before I completed a similar conversion project.
very curios what the burr brown controller for machine purposes is
DL>It was eons ago and I've got my notes on it buried somewhere, but what I
DL>do remember is that mailorder component suppliers like Newark sell
DL>integrated circuit chips that will convert just about anything to just
DL>about anything else, even ASCII-to-IBM Selectric conversons, if you can
will try calling mouser or digikey with questions. of course next
problem would be to get the chip to convert to the right freq tones.
best way to do it would probably be to use one of those dsp tnc's
that have programmable mark/space on send and receive. the pk-232
has adjustable mark space frequencies on the potentiometer but
i suspect the filters on receive will not work right. will call aea
if all modes had same mark space freq. i think it would work.
DL>imagine that. Buy the right conversion chip and it's certain that the
DL>other info you need will be included in the factory docs.
DL>Also, in most good university tech libraries, you can find the details
DL>that establish just about any ANSI, ASCII, SECS, IEEE standards, which,
DL>in many cases, are identical to milspecs. The usual differences between
harris radio says their radios are rs-232 compatable but....they write
their own protocol..real tricky ...in this application...plain rs-232
i think....i'll tell yah all about my project if ur interested
i think it is pretty neat.
DL>milspec and commercial are just tolerances.
DL>MK>is there any software that would cause a computer to listen to
DL>MK>pactor/gtor/packet with a rs-232 serial input into the back of the
DL>MK>computer? if this software exists i won't even need the terminal node
DL>MK>controller in this application as the input for the units prior
DL>MK>to the radio in this application accept rs-232/rs-432/mil-188 only.

DL>Hmmmm, last time I looked, there was such a thing but it comes with a
DL>card that you put in your computer which, seems to me, is a de facto
DL>TNC. Don't think there's a way around that 'un yet...leastwise I
DL>haven't heard of one. Good luck.
