Exactly. Lost in all of this is the reality of the sophistication of
Castro's machine, which -- over the decades -- includes frighteningly
sadistic state-sponsored mind-control apparatus, from local
"eyes" watching for dissenters to horrifying  Soviet-style
"psychiatric" facilities using every technique from leading-edge
torture to psychotropic drugs... to threats (real and implied) against
loved ones.

What concerns me is not only the willingness of the many self-willed
knee-jerk apologists in here and beyond to ignore this frightening reality
(which the Miami Cuban community is all-too aware), but also their ability
to place our country in the position of becoming partial enablers of this
horrifying regime... at least in this one instance.

This Elian saga is quite telling to the extent that it helps define where
we are as a people at this particular moment.

What I am seeing is not comforting.
