subject: Rebates

While tripping merrily through the mail, Bill Dennison was overheard
BD> air rebate asks for the safety tab off the top of the can) CompUSA
BD> has recently instituted a policy where the CompUSA exclusive rebates
BD> will now accept a photocopy of the original receipt, but other vendors
BD> still insist on the original copy. Basically, you have to ask the
BD> cashier to run your charge card through the terminal once for each item
BD> you wish to redeem the rebate.
Plus, if it's an electronic device, and you mail the original receipt to
get your rebate, in many cases you have now lost your warranty!
Actually, the only rebate that ever really did me a lot of good was once
buying a car. The $1000 rebate basically allowed me to finance with no
down payment, since the rebate became the down payment. Had the dealer
simply discounted the car $1000, I would have had to come up with the
cash instead.
