Hi Tom, you can configure the 850 interface up to 9600 baud with the
right software. BobTerm v1.21 (or 1.22) is shareware and, by far, the
best terminal for the 8bit Atari.
Any external modem can be connected to the 850 port 1 RS232 with the
correct cable. You can make the cable with an 8-pin male D plug, an
RS232 male plug and at least a 5-wire [shielded preferred] cable.
I can provide the pin connections if you request. There is also an
external Zmodem receive program for the Atari that is compatible with
Bobterm and the 850. It is called Atar-Z-Modem (ATZMOD12.ARC).
