I have an HP1320 LaserJet attached to an SMC network print server (which
cost all of $60)
IIRC I set up the printer using the graphical widget from the desktop,
but the Printing page in TCPIP configuration ends up with slightlly
different information.
Remote Print Server: the IP address of the machine: 192.168.1.11
(I suspect that a hostname which is properly listed in the Host
Names/Host tab would also work)
Remote Print Server's Printer: the name of the queue for printing:
/printer/queue1
(No I have no idea how/where/why I cam eup with that entry...)
Maximum number of LPD Ports. I have '8'. I presume this is for
multiported print server gadgets....
If I go in through the desktop icon widget and open 'NetPrinter' >
Properties > Output Port > \PIPE\LPD0 > Properties, the first 2 lines
are the 'Print Destination' fields in the top left of the Settings
screen, called LPD Server and LPD printer. There is no entry on that
screen for the max number,
The reason for using the Pipe Settings page is that it allows you to set
'Display Ports settings on printe' ON... Then when you try a print job,
it shows you the settings page.. very useful for debugging.
I note that the same print server is described as
\\192.168.1.11\sced4c97 when printing under Fedora Core 5. That last
name is the default name for the unit, as discovered from accessing the
print server through html. You may wish to try that to see if your
gadget is young enough to reply that way!.
