Telegraph version:

There were times when Sir David Frost's interview with Tony Blair on
al-Jazeera threatened to turn into a quick 40 winks, so languid was the
great interrogator's delivery.

But seasoned Frost-watchers know that this is the moment when the man or
woman in the hot seat should be most on his or her guard. The Prime
Minister wasn't, and blurted out two monosyllabic words he will have plenty
of opportunity to regret.

Did Mr Blair agree, inquired the virtually horizontal Sir David, that the
Anglo-American intervention in Iraq had so far been "pretty much of a
disaster?" It was hardly a googly, but a delivery that the PM, on home
ground in the warmly-lit drawing room at No 10, somehow failed completely
to deflect.

"It has," came the jaw-dropping reply, before Mr Blair rushed on
to explain how it was all the fault of al-Qa'eda, Sunni insurgents and Shia
militias etc. But no one was listening to that bit. At last, after all that
time and all those increasingly delusional predictions of ultimate success,
Mr Blair had admitted what most of the world had rather suspected for some
time.
