It's the pursuit of/love of power. Taking responsibility is very noble but
destroys a political career whereas sliming away in a cloud of ink means
you can come back a few years later.
It's what used to make me laugh with esp American pols standing up &
saying how they were men of conviction etc.etc. without saying what their
stand or fall convictions were.
Turns out that the convictions are "I believe I should be
president/congressman" & that's about it.
