D'you remember how they cut down the powers of the president coz the pres
woz Arafat? Ohhh much better to have a proper Prime Minister & cabinet
etc....then Hamas take that & it's "ohhh we need a stronger
presidency".

God alone knows what might have happened to the US position with Arafat as
Pres & Hamas as Gov.

However the real problem is that in theory the west is "setting up
institutions not people" & yet....here we have people looking to
"boost" Abbas by name.....

So what happens in the next PA presidency? What happens if it's Hamas or
Marwan Barghouti.

Is the US then going to say "hurray we supplied Hamas with a
"deterrent capability"?

Strange how now they've introduced democracy, they seem to be so out of
their depths with it's complexities vs the simplicity of dealing with a
single "strong man".
