Yup US VA & MHS are getting very good wrt amputations &
prosthetics. It's the effect of IED + body armour + helmet.

Big bang, central core & head are left in a survivable state (assuming
someone stops the blood loss). However legs & arms.....

The US is going to have a lot of missing limb VA's pottering about for the
next 1/2 century or so.
