well, i would in no way call synchronet an isp in any way , shape or form.

more like a service suite, and you can pick and choose what you would like to 
run.

dont want the email server for the users? turn it off.
same with the ftp server, web, nntp, etc.

it's a pretty good software, especially for being free.

if you were to go out and look for something comparable, you'd find something 
that would be lackluster in comparison, and have a hefty pricetag.

really, it takes a good product to make someone like me, who loved 
renegade/iniquity/tg for so many years to be a cheerleader for synchornet.
