RL> Every U.S. racial group's SAT average increased between 1975 and
RL> 1992. The over-all average has declined because
RL> formerly low-scoring black, EIi Panic? and.native
RL> groups have been increasing their participation in
RL> the exams even faster than theirs cores have been
RL> gaining on white and Asian-American scores.
RL> Similarly, girls have increased their SAT
RL> participation faster than their scores have gained
RL> on male scores. (The SATs were drastically changed
RL> after their designers noticed, in 1992, that Asian-
RL> American scores had overshot white scores and that
RL> black scores were rising three times as fast as
RL> white scores and slightly faster than those of
RL> Asian Americans. Many believe that denying blacks
RL> an even break is a major purpose of standardized"
RL> testing.)
I think this hits one major part of the effort to discredit education, to
educate minorities worries certain groups in both our countries. I think that
race equality is a big part of the fear that drives these people to do what
they do.
