Well, I had one given to me, then the principal said she needed it back. I
later found out that the report was never supposed to be released to the
public, especially the teachers. Truth was, the then current politicos didn't
want the truth, only lies and half-truths to make education the bashed part
of society.
By my upbringing, I am a very conservative - but I am open to listen to the
other side of the story. In the report, I learned how statistics have been
used to browbeat teachers and education in general. I also learned that
teachers were doing much better here than reported by the government.
Just today, an article revealed that our local HS students scored at the
national average on the ACT tests. When looking at that one might say that
"average" isn't so good. However, when taking in to account the economic
levels here plus the ethnic makeup - I think the schools have done pretty
good.
I was just a little suprized when hearing Canada's problems, I guess this so
called "conservatism" had spilled accross the border.
What you have begun is what all of us need to do - speak up!!
