I can only speak from personal experience in my own vacuum chamber, but
I've successfully coated several mirrors with silicone and or epoxy
supports still glued in place.

My most recent example is a 2" flat elliptical secondary out of a Questar, which
I coated with the rectangular black anodized aluminum backing plate still RTV'ed
in place. (Btw, this was done on-site at the 03' Orange Blossom Star Party
in Central Florida, with the aluminizer setup on the dirt/grass observing
field. I
coated several mirrors that weekend, here's a link: (towards the bottom)
