I don't use "bait", either.  However, I *have* used beer as can attest to the 
fact that it works.  I'm not crazy about it, but I *do* prefer it to "bait".  
But I also like diatomateous earth... probably the best.  It also takes care 
of other things, as well... (actually, anything that gets it on it's "little" 
feet...I'm talking "creepy crawlers", here).
I've never used dish water for spraying...  As for your "aquarium water"... 
it is also one of my favorites.  In fact, I miss my fish for that reason 
only!   :)
