Yeah, I suppose that might well be useful.

Ians also suggested that it was likely intended to give good user
responsiveness with particularly slow speed non ARQ connects. That
certainly makes a lot of sense coz a buffered 2400 non ARQ connect
with a high locked port speed would certainly end up with a lot of
say banner and menu text dumped into the modem buffer which then
takes a considerable time to pump out over the phone line at 2400,
and if the user has already used a hotkey and isnt interested in
all that crap, the BBS cant do anything about it.

Have the port floating with a port speed of 2400 in that case,
the BBS can see the hotkey arrive form the user and just abort
the menu etc and carry out the action the hotkey specifys.

I do recall that US USR rabid zealot Hendricks raving
on about that at one time now I come to think of it.
