Disable MNP5 only - MNP4 (error correction) is not a problem, and all you'll get with some older modems. On generic Rockwells it's %C2 to allow V.42bis but not MNP5. You could do it like you say, or you could put that in NVRAM, and add (your equivalent of) %C3 to your answer string; same difference. It's not very common to run into MNP5 mail sessions these days, anyway ..
