the perl faq is easy enough to find...

 BS> Is there a big difference?

perl5 is the same as perl4, but with the oo tacked on to it...

 BS> Hmm..?

microsoft actually commissioned a version of perl for windows nt4 (resource
kit). i think the company that created it was 'hip communications'

Gurusamy Sarathy is the guy who built first really good version of perl5
for windows (5.002xxx). it's generally known as the 'gsar' version. i think
he works for activestate now...

 BS> Aha, but you don't have a good reference?

best reference i've seen is o'reilly's 'perl in a nutshell'. must have book
if you don't have the camel book or the llama book. it's more orgnaized
than the two of them...

i like being able to do stuff like:

$x++ if ! defined($x);

which is 'increment x if it doesn't exist :)
