JS> Delta pilots seek midcontract pay raise, consider picketing
JS> ATLANTA -- Delta Air Lines pilots want more money from the na-
JS> tion's third-largest carrier, saying the airline extracted a pay cut
JS> in contract negotiations last year and then gave raises to nonunion
JS> employees.
JS> Leaders of the airline'e pilots union are meeting in Dallas
JS> this week to discuss the possible use of informational pickets and
JS> other strategies to pressure Delta to negotiate a raise. The union
JS> has not said how much more it wants. The average salary for Delta's
JS> 9,400 pilots is between $110,000 and $120,000 a year.
JS> When the airline said it needed help, the pilots stepped up to
JS> the plate and gave Delta $1 billion in savings ... in decreases in
JS> pay, benefits and vacation. They looked at it as an investment,"
JS> said Karen McGuffey, a spokeswoman for the Airline Pilots
JS> Association.
JS> "Now that Delta has record earnings and is giving pay raises
JS> and vacation increases to non-contract employees, it's time to be
JS> fair to the pilots," she said.
Delta and all others approach to this is, "What's mine is mine and
what's your's is mine, wake up suckers".
JS> The pilots' contract extends to May 1, 2000, and Delta is under
JS> no obligation to amend the pact.
And they have no intention of amending it. They are busy working on how
to try to screw you out of the next contract and only then after
dragging it out for a couple of year then trying to negotiate Retro Pay.
