What did you use to make the backup. Or what sort of environment would
you need to restore it?

Strange. I've used Bootable and while I can't say it was terribly easy
to get set up, I did manage to produce a bootable CD using it, complete
with PM environment and a few extras.

As above, yes, I've used it to create bootable CDs. I did have problems
with Doug Bisset's addon, and ended up doing most of it in stages
myself. Always mean to get back and find out what I did wrong using
Doug's extra setup options, but haven't got there yet.

I did end up having to do a bit of tweaking to the batch file to burn
the cd after using MKISOFS to create the ISO in the first place.

Another alternative, though its not really intended for the same
purpose is UpdCD (http://www.updcd.tk/). I've used it to create
bootable install CDs for both Wapr 4 and eCS 1.1. I've also used those
bootable CDs as a text mode rescue system on ocasion (I add extra tools
such as editors and filemanagers, plus, of course, Dfsee when creating
the CD). UpdCD takes a bit of setting up (if only because of the number
of bits you have to collect) but works pretty well. And does have the
ability to create an updated install CD for most variants of OS/2.
