Concerning _Cellular Mods for ICOM radios_, Matthew Sadler said to Bill Cheek
in SCANRADIO:
MS> Well, you've always got the morons at Icom, who, instead of just
MS> axing cellular, decided, why not ax it all? They took ALL of 800 MHz!
Ack! How dreadful.
However, they may be just jumping the gun. Around Cleveland I've found a
good half a dozen frequencies being used to carry cellular calls in the
896/903 MHz range, and in middle Tennessee there are several more in the
851/869 MHz range. Even without modification there are many scanners on the
market now that can listen in on these frequencies.
I figure as the cellular frequency range expands, so will the laws affecting
what we can listen to. From a manufacturer's standpoint, I guess it makes a
certain kind of sense to go ahead and kill all of 800 MHz now as opposed to
waiting for the laws to change and then scrambling to do so.
... Matthew Sadler is on the trail of a devious killer in "PEEK-A-BOO LACE,
P.I."
