Hi Stephen.
On Monday, March 11, 1996, Stephen Lennie wrote to John Piper ...

I posted the message in AUST_MODEM a few weeks ago, didn't receive a reply,
so I assumed you hadn't been reading. I haven't been following AUST_MODEM
myself,
so I haven't seen your reply yet (I've also been away).

Hmmm. I always used S95=47 to report the DCE speed. Maybe it's superfluous
since I'm using the %U2 and \V1 (or whatever it was that you suggested).

And it does. I still have the upgrade on my filebase somewhere.
SL> If you have somehow loaded the code for the M34F, Z7V261L.B16
I'm not a complete idiot Stephen. :-) :-)
SL> Does the "ATI9" command respond with something like this?...
SL> Series 5 V.FAST Class 28800 Modem DFS(K)-V7 V2.61L NetComm Ltd. (C) 1995
Series 5 V.FAST Class 28800 Modem DFS(B)-V7 V2.61L NetComm Ltd. (C) 1995

Not sure what this means, but it's certainly different from yours.

ATI2 returned two OKs. Normal?

SL> RINGING
SL> CARRIER 28800
SL> PROTOCOL: LAP-M
SL> COMPRESSION: V.42BIS
SL> CONNECT 28800/LAP-M/V.42bis/V.FC
That's what I want. :-(
SL> All I can suggest is that you ensure that you have the correct firmware

Procedure chomped, but filed in case I need it. I did exactly as the manual
told me, all except for specifying a DTE rate with /C=19200.
SL> Notes: 1 COM2 assumed
Just as well. :-)
SL> 2 19200 bps is slow but sure
Dunno why -- the thing's capable of 115k2. I lock it at 57k6 anyhow.
SL> If the modem still doesn't return the proper CONNECT string, ring NetComm
SL> Support on 1800 642 067 and see if they can offer any other suggestions or

Thanks. I'll twiddle with that S95 register and dial a BBS to see what
happens. If I somehow fix the problem before you get back to me, I'll drop
you another
message.
