Major problem w/ Ensemble 2.01 -- it won't run. It ran until last Saturday,
when I upgraded that computer from Stacker 4.0 to Stacker 4.1. I already had
Stacker 4.1 on my Windows notebook.
After upgrading Stacker, every time I started Ensemble, it would load and
look OK. As soon as I touched the mouse or keyboard, that ugly error window
appeared with this message: "Please insert disk MS-DOS_5 into drive C. Press
Enter to continue." MS-DOS_5 is the volume name of the hard drive.
Everything else works fine. Norton Utilities reports everything is fine,
except the stuff it normally reports is bad when operating w/Stacker. Virus
check software doesn't show anything. The volume name of my hard drive is
still MS-DOS_5. SETVER is installed properly. I used CHKDSK, Check,
Scandisk, and all is well, except for Ensemble. I checked the GEOS.INI file,
even deleted it and installed the backup. Same problem!
I finally gave up and reinstalled Ensemble 2.0. Same error message. The
only difference is the error message appears in the top left corner of the
screen instead of in an error window, about 5 seconds into Ensemble loading,
instead of later. I installed and ran the V2.01 patch. The text file
reported everything upgraded successfully. The only problem is, it still
won't run! Same problem, same error message.
The only thing I can figure is that 2.0 and 2.01 are incompatible with
Stacker 4.1. No, I'm not going to reformat the hard drive, install DOS,
Stacker 4.0 and everything else on the hard drive. I don't have time to play
silly games with fragile software. Any ideas how to fix this?
