My hubby does that.  And he's starting to crack some pretty sharp
one-liners here recently, too.  
We went to Chinese buffet Thursday night and I made the comment
after I began to get full, but still had quite a bit of food on
my plate, about my eyes being bigger than my stomach.  He looked
up with a wicked twinkle in his eyes and said, "There's not enough
retina in the world for that!"    Smarty alec!

Your efforts weren't poor at all.  I remember how much better I
felt after Dad died, at the cards I received from echo friends,
and your message was such a blessing!
I was so sorry to have been offline when you lost your mom, so I
didn't get to do the same for you.  It's hard, and it must have
been doubly hard for you because you were closer to your mom than
I was to Dad.  He and I had gone round and round on certain topics
and worn one another out!  I get my stubbornness from his side of
the family!    Two peas in a pod, and both convinced we were
always right.  I don't know how anyone else stood our ragings!
Uh-oh, I hear the beginning rumble of thunder here.  It was really
supposed to do this last night and may have but I was asleep early.
I wore myself out the past few days and needed to crash early last
night.  No crafting or sewing for me!  Couldn't keep the eyelids
glued open.  hehe
