| subject: | Spirit Viper problems |
-=> Quoting Paul Edwards to All <=- WT> HmmM i think i'm gonna get a viper. Can someone who actually knows what WT> they're talking about answer some questions (i.e someone that owns one and PE> I got one on loan for two days. I have my Binkley logs available PE> for FREQ for that period if you are interested, FREQ VIPER.ZIP PE> from 3:711/934. I have had a Viper for about 9months. I have had next to no problems. WT> that isnt a moron :). Ok here goes. Does the viper have the double send PE> No it doesn't have the double-send problem. They are using the PE> Rockwell chipset now, so it's not like they have the brainpower PE> to fix their bugs, it's just that they've got the brainpower to PE> know that they are braindead. I also had a Spirit II and it was the most fucked up piece of shit I HAVE USED BEFORE. WT> bug? does the viper have any problems at all getting v34 connects (i.e WT> is there a brand of modem giving you trouble?). What sorta average cps do PE> Not on V34. I have had some reported problems with connects in PE> those 2 days, I haven't had a chance to analyse it yet. I get very good connects. I am VERY suprised when I get below 26400. Common CPS rate is 3200. WT> u get between 2 vipers? I know the question might seem a bit permature but WT> i wanna make sure its a good modem. I'm kinda impressed and maybe just PE> I'd wait if I were you. Let someone else find out the problems PE> with it. Between 2 vipers I got 3280. Not much difference. When connected to a USR V34+ however I found it hovering around 3300-3400 beleive it or not. WT> a little hopefull that off all the modem makers out there spirit has seen WT> alot of rubbishing and maybe because of this they've built a damn WT> fine modem %100 bug free! Sort of a trial and error thing I own a spirit PE> Don't believe that. They could have fixed the problems with the PE> Spirit II if they'd had the will to do it. Like have the will to PE> actually answer my faxes after I've sent them international. PE> Like answer the messages I left on their BBS after calling them PE> international. Like responding to Trev Roydhouse after he went PE> and visited them personally in USA. Me and 3 friends all have Vipers. One of the modems has had the speaker screwed. It is incredibly soft, and you can't change it with the registers. On my viper, the prompt disappears, like you type something like "ATS0=1" and it won't display "OK" but will turn the AA on and answer. After typing AT&F the prompt comes back. Pretty bizarre. Happens in all my comms proggies. Overall the viper is cool. I like it. jason ...
